SNAP Decision

Two federal judges, one in Massachusetts and one in Rhode Island, have ruled that the administration cannot suspend SNAP benefits during the shutdown.

The Republicans want to kill the ACA. Allowing the subsidies that help people buy insurance through the ACA exchanges expire at the end of the year would be a first step toward that goal. They've been using the threat to cut off food stamps as leverage.

I'm not sure exactly what these court decisions will accomplish. Trump and his cronies are not known for asking "how high" when the courts say "jump." I don't know if there will be an appeal process and what happens to the SNAP program in the meantime.

Update: The Trump administration says that it will partially fund SNAP. I suppose that means they will prorate benefits based upon the USDA emergency fund which has about three-quarters of what is necessary to fully fund SNAP for November.
