The last time I looked, no one was giving out guarantees that life was going to be fair.
The problem is that when you try to “even the score” it often leads to unintended consequences, because the people evening the score aren’t that smart, and a backlash, because people tend to take a dim view of the government taking their stuff and giving it to someone else without any benefit to themselves.
The government should focus on everyone having a minimum standard of living and access to the opportunity to do better. That’s clearly not evening the score but it’s what most people need to have a fighting chance.
How does one do that? (1) Universal Healthcare, (2) Guaranteed Basic Income and (3) Free Public Education with admission to Free Undergraduate Education earned by merit and performance.
